MBIP is a leading intellectual property law firm, known for its expertise in patents, trademarks, and IP strategy. As the firm moved into a new era without its founding namesake, it needed a rebrand that would signal its continued strength, innovation, and forward-thinking approach while staying recognisable to its existing client base.

The Challenge

Michael Buck IP, a respected firm in the intellectual property law space, faced a pivotal moment when its founder, Michael Buck, stepped away from the business. With this transition, the firm saw an opportunity to modernise its brand identity and reposition itself in the industry. The key challenge was to develop a fresh, contemporary identity that would stand out while maintaining continuity with its legacy. Additionally,

the firm sought to simplify its name to "MBIP" to reflect

its evolution.

My Solution

After running a brand discovery workshop with the partners, I crafted a bold rebranding initiative that positioned MBIP as a modern, progressive leader in the IP law industry. Our approach was to create a concept that would set them apart while paying homage to their original identity.


The new brand retained a connection to its past through the strategic use of its signature orange colour—an element that provided continuity and recognition. However, I refined the palette and introduced a contemporary, sophisticated design language that reflects MBIP’s authority and expertise in the IP and Trade Mark field.
