About

CreditBank, a leading financial institution in Papua New Guinea, required a loan calculator that would act as both a self-service tool and a lead-generation mechanism. The goal was to create an intuitive experience that simplified loan estimates while capturing user details for follow-up discussions with the bank. Given the digital landscape in PNG, the calculator needed to be accessible, lightweight, and mobile-friendly, ensuring usability even in areas with slow internet connections.

The Challenge

Designing a multi-step loan calculator that balanced simplicity with functionality was key. The tool needed to guide users smoothly from loan selection to repayment estimation without overwhelming them with financial complexities. Given the varying levels of digital literacy in PNG, the interface had to be clear, easy to navigate, and visually engaging. The calculator also had to function reliably on low-bandwidth networks, meaning lightweight design, optimised performance, and minimal data usage were essential. Beyond just estimating repayments, the tool needed to drive lead generation, ensuring users submitted their contact details, prompting a follow-up call from the bank to discuss loan options in more detail.

My Solution

To maximise accessibility and lead generation, I designed a lightweight, step-by-step calculator that simplifies the process. Users select their loan type, adjust key figures with interactive sliders, and receive a clear repayment estimate in a bold, high-contrast display. At the final step, users submit their details, triggering a follow-up call from the bank. The design prioritises fast load times, mobile responsiveness, and minimal data usage, ensuring usability even on slow connections. By balancing clarity, performance, and conversion-driven functionality, the calculator enhances Kina Bank’s digital experience while driving customer engagement.
